What happens when the can from a fire rated downlight is subjected to fire?.
This video shows a metal can with intumescent insert being heated with a flame. The can is the back of an integrated LED downlight.
The insert is intended to expand and prevent flames passing through the hole in the can when high temperatures or fire are encountered. In this test, the insert performs as expected, expanding and charring but not burning.
The second section of this video tests the current capacity of the printed circuit board traces from the same downlight. The loop in design of the mains connectors means that the current for the entire circuit passes through the PCB tracks.
