This video demonstrates the use of a modern clamp meter.
Clamp meters are used to measure the current flowing in a conductor without having break the circuit or make direct contact with that conductor.
Also features two much older examples - a Ferranti tong tester and a Weston Clipper.
Limitations
Unless specifically designed for such things, clamp meters:
- only measure AC current
- only work with a single conductor (no use with a flex containing both line and neutral)
- do not measure voltage
